Job Description: 

Summary:

This position is responsible for managing assigned research and development programs to capitalize on potential new products.  Develops and implements research and development procedures, processes and techniques. Oversees complex research projects, analyzes results, and provides recommendations based on findings.  Assesses the scope of projects and ensures they are delivered on time and within budget.  Manages and develops a team of development engineers.

Essential Functions:

  • Leads R&D team to support strategic objectives for the product line.
  • Collaborates with marketing and commercial teams to identify new opportunities and establish priorities.
  • Delivers new products and technology to support strategic objectives. 
  • Leads technology road-mapping efforts. Identifies, acquires or develops key technologies to maintain or establish leadership in key strategic markets. 
  • Recruits and develops world class technical talent.
  • Optimizes portfolio investments and resources to deliver high returns on R&D investments.
  • Utilizes common R&D management processes and participates in process improvement efforts.
  • Manages Intellectual Property for the group.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science or related technical field
  • 8+ years’ experience in Research and Development or New Product Development
  • Experience leading research and development professionals and technicians
  • Successful product development history
  • Experience in materials and material-driven applications
  • Understanding and success in risk management, resource planning, design control, product development and life cycle management
  • Ability to interpret technology and market trends as a basis for technology and product roadmaps
